Many webmasters, including some domain name investors, have a habit of collecting high-quality or highly authoritative domain names, either to use for their own websites or to sell to others. A key way to collect these domain names is to pre-register someone else's. Newbies often wonder, "Why can't I register my expired domain name?" How can I register an expired domain name?

1. Why can't I register my expired domain name?

Domain names are generally divided into two categories: domestic and international. These two categories have slightly different expiration dates.

1. Domestic domain names (including Chinese/English domain names like .cn, .gov.cn, .中国, .公司, .网络, etc.) and .co domain names will enter a 14-day redemption period. Domain names that miss the redemption period will be directly available for public re-registration.

2. International domain names (including Chinese/English .com, Chinese/English .net, Chinese/English .biz, Chinese/English .cc, Chinese/English .tv, .org, .me, .so, .tel, .mobi, .asia, .name, and .info) will enter a 29-day redemption period. If an international domain name under a member account misses the redemption period, it will enter a 5-day pending deletion period. During this period, it cannot be renewed or redeemed, and the domain name will remain pending for deletion. After the 5-day pending deletion period, it will be directly available for public re-registration.

Therefore, we cannot register a domain name immediately after it expires. We must wait until both the holding and redemption periods have expired before we can register it.

2. How to register an expired domain name?

After a domain name expires, the registrar will open it for backorder. Before that, we simply need to reserve the domain name in advance and wait for the registrar to open it for backorder.
