ICANN recently launched two key programs to pave the way for new gTLD applications, marking the official entry into the preparation stage for the next round of domain name expansion plans.

The Registration Service Provider Evaluation Program (RSP Program) is mainly for companies that want to provide technical support. Through this program, qualified service providers will be included in the ICANN official list, and new gTLD applicants can directly choose partners without having to pass independent technical evaluation. The application window is now open, and the first round of applications will end on May 20, 2024.

The Applicant Support Program (ASP Program) provides up to 85% discount on the basic application fee for non-profit organizations from specific underserved areas, and is expected to support 45 applicants. ICANN has allocated $10 million to reduce funding barriers, and ASP applications will end on November 19, 2024.

These two programs not only provide technical and economic support for the global domain name ecosystem, but also lay the foundation for more diversified participation. The opening of the next round of gTLD application windows is just around the corner, and the global domain name market will usher in a new round of competition and opportunities.
