Will .si Domain Superintelligence Become the Next .ai Artificial Intelligence?

Just a few days ago, the Slovenian .si extension came into the limelight, although the national domain name has been in use for many years. Some domain name investors have increased their interest in .si (superintelligence). Please note that any association of the .si extension with superintelligence is currently speculative.

It is reported that the recent interest in the possible connection between the .si domain name extension and superintelligence began with Abhin's post X on June 23, 2024.
Just a few hours later, a group of investors registered .si domain names.
What is a .si domain name
The .SI domain name is the Slovenian country top-level domain name (ccTLD), similar to domain names in other countries or regions such as .US (United States), .UK (United Kingdom), .DE (Germany), etc. In the Internet domain name system, each country or region has its own specific country code top-level domain name (Country Code Top-Level Domain, referred to as ccTLD) to identify and distinguish the Internet resources of its country or region.

Copilot.si owned by Microsoft; was it recently acquired?
The X post perhaps suggests that Microsoft recently acquired the domain, a direct match to their famous artificial intelligence product Copilot. But is the acquisition recent?
The domain copilot.si was created on June 23, 2017, long before Microsoft developed and released Copilot in February 2023. It has been registered ever since. Copilot.si is currently registered by Microsoft at Markmonitor, a registrar frequently used by major companies. Microsoft owning copilot.si does not in itself indicate a move toward super intelligence expansion.
"Super Intelligence" or "Slovenia"?
Many world businesses have .si domains: IBM.si, Apple.si, Amazon.si, safe.si, and KFC.si, among others.
Canadian dictionaries show that "si" should be two words, but Merriam-Webster shows "si" as a single word. Experts in the field seem to usually write "si" as one word.
How to Check Whois for .SI Names
Some registrars whois services do not show records for the .si extension. However, you can look up Whois information for .si names on Register.si. The .SI registry website also provides a table showing the status of the extension, which is handy for tracking registration trends - something I wish every registry did. Shown below are statistics for June 24, 2024. We see a total of over 156,000 registered domains, with 500 new registrations in the last 24 hours, indicating an increase in registrations.

Registering .SI Names
While 88 registrars support the .si extension, the most popular registrar for domain name investors does not yet support this extension. Most registrars that handle .si are from Europe. Prices vary greatly, so if you plan to register any .si domains, use resources such as TLD-list or TLDES to compare prices.
Web Results for .SI
As one indicator of extension usage, I used the Googlesite:.si command with a tool to indicate the number of web results. I found that the .si extension had 69.8 million search results. In comparison, .ai had 86.2 million, and .io had 394 million.
But remember that Slovenia has a population of over 2 million, so you can expect a fair number of country web results from that population, where .ai is the country code for Anguilla, which has a population of only about 15,000, and .io is now a restricted territory.
