Memorable domain names are worth a lot of money. The easiest domain names to remember are the ones where the name and extension match, like com.com or win.win. These are called "twin domains" or "double domains." In this blog post, I'll look at twin domains in use, twin domains that have sold, and some twin domains that are currently for sale.
What are twin domains?
Not sure if there is an official definition, but I'm using the term domain twin here to refer to domains where the terms on both sides of the dot are the same. I'm using domain twins and domain twins for short the same thing.
Domains that resemble the same word or abbreviation repeated twice are called "twin domains" or sometimes "double domains." This naming method is often used to make a domain name more unique or memorable, especially within a blog, professional field, or specific industry.
What twin domains are in use?
There aren't many domain twins in use, except as landing pages or parked domains for sale. Here are what twin domains are in use?
blog.blog This redirects to the page for starting a WordPress blog.
win.win This is the website of the Twins peer-to-peer digital currency exchange.
ch.ch The Swiss government actively uses this domain in a website that provides multiple services.
com.com This is probably the most valuable domain twin. It is currently used to monetize links.
am.am This is the main website of the law firm with the initials AM.
me.me You can buy meme-related items here. This domain twin is also a domain hacker.
be.be This short country code domain twin redirects to the Trimiday website, which is a P2B (person to business) website. Its purpose is consistent with the TrimidayMe2B brand, which is a marketplace for individuals to provide insights, reviews and feedback to brands.
gg.gg I thought this domain might be a gaming website, but it is used for a URL shortener website. The domain twin to.to is also used as a URL shortener.
net.net This website is active and claims to be "the first and best domain on the Internet!". However, its official creation date net.net is October 22, 1994. This is certainly old, but not nearly as old as symbolics.com, which was registered on March 14, 1985. If the meaning is the first web page, then it is generally believed to be the page set up at the scientific institution CERN founded by Tim Berners-Lee on August 6, 1991. Regardless, net.net is a very valuable and fantastic domain twin.
world.world This domain is used for a fairly new website whose goal is to "transform the world (as we know it today) into one full of potential for joy". The author of the site invites readers to follow his journey through a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
homes.homes This domain is used by homes.com, a website that provides residential-related services and dates back to Homes & Land Magazine in 1973.
fit.fit This fitness website has beautiful graphics, but I have no idea what it mainly does. They do emphasize the domain twin nature of their website.
one.one This domain redirects to One.com, a major web service provider.
live.live This website is in the early stages of development and provides referral and monetization links.
The domain xyz.xyz is used by the registry to promote the .xyz extension.
art.art also has an attractive and informative website operated by the registry. Interestingly, as part of that website they have a section about the ART Digital Twin Project. This has nothing to do with the idea of domain twins, but rather an art identification and authentication protocol. sucks.sucks unhappy with the extension?
Domain Twin Sales
There aren't many domain twin sales to be found, at least according to the NameBio database. Here are some I found. net.net sold in a private sale in 2004 for $100,000.
live.live sold on Rightside in 2016 for $25,000.
top.top sold on eName in 2015 for $16,071.
horse.horse sold on Sedo in 2016 for $2000.
Twin Domains for Sale
Currently, many of the twin domains for sale seem to be in the hands of a few domain name investors. Most of them are bid, but there are also a few with higher prices, such as horse.horsevip.vip, which is priced at $388,000, and club.club, which is currently priced at $5 million.
For various reasons, twin domains are not common in the Internet market, but they are highly memorable and are usually collected by investors. A few are used for actual project development, and another part is used for website jumps. Therefore, for twin domains, we may not be familiar with this concept, but once we understand it, we will find their uniqueness.
