What is a domain name? Why do we need to protect the domain name?

The network is based on the TCP/IP protocol for communication and connection. Each host has a unique and fixed IP address to distinguish the huge number of hosts on the Internet. IP addresses are digital, and it is not convenient to remember many numbers, so people invented domain name addresses, which use character structures. Domain name addresses are the natural language names of domains, and they have a one-to-one correspondence with digital IP addresses. IP addresses are like the ID card numbers of computers, while domain name addresses are equivalent to the names of computers, which are convenient for people to remember and use.

Domain names are generally composed of two or more words, separated by "." in the middle, and their structure is: fourth-level domain name. Third-level domain name. Second-level domain name. First-level domain name.

The rightmost area has the highest level (top-level domain name), indicating the country code. Since the United States is the initiator of the international Internet, its highest-level domain name is relatively special, indicating the type of network, and the nature of the host can be judged based on this. If the highest-level domain name of a host is composed of com, edu, etc., it can generally be judged that this host is in the United States. The types of networks in the United States are divided into six categories: com (commercial), edu (edu), gov (government), org (others) and net (network resources). The highest-level domain name in other countries is generally the country code, such as China, which is represented by cn.

In my country, there are two types of second-level domain names: category domain names and administrative region names. Category domain names are divided into 6 categories: ac (scientific research institutions), com (commercial and other enterprises), edu (educational institutions), goⅴ (government departments), net (network service agencies), org (non-profit organizations). There are 34 administrative region names, which are applicable to all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in my country. Compared with IP addresses, domain name addresses are more advanced and more intuitive, so users often use domain name addresses in actual use. However, domain name addresses cannot replace IP addresses because computers can only recognize values 0 and 1. Domain name registration requires application. Most institutions, enterprises, and institutions use the full spelling, abbreviation, or trademark of their own unit name to define their own domain names so that others can remember and identify them. The definition of a domain name may have no direct relationship with the company, trademark, or product name, but every domain name on the Internet is unique. If a domain name has been registered, no other institution can register the same domain name. In fact, the significance of domain names is equivalent to trademarks and corporate logos. It can be said that it is the "Internet trademark" of the registered enterprise and belongs to the intangible assets of the enterprise. By registering domain names and setting up URLs on the Internet, enterprises have established access channels to the outside world. Internet users can link and view at any time, thereby obtaining extensive business contacts and winning attention and opportunities for themselves.

At this stage, the Internet is developing rapidly, and the commercial value of domain names is also increasing. It has become a symbol of a corporate image. However, domain name preemptive registration incidents occur frequently. Therefore, domain name protection is urgent. In order to prevent problems before they happen, domain name registration should be carried out in a timely manner to fundamentally prevent infringement by others.
