Food has an expiration date; expired food spoils. Medicine has a shelf life, but expired medicine may have side effects. Feelings have an expiration date, but no one remembers the feeling of expiration. Since many foods and medicines have expiration dates, do domain names also have expiration dates?
Unlike food, domain name expiration only applies to the domain name holder, not the domain itself. A domain name's expiration date depends on whether the owner renews it before expiration. If the owner fails to renew or forgets to renew, the domain will be marked as "Expired Domain" for a short period of time. "Expired Domain" status has three stages.
Registrar Retention is set by the original registrar; the domain name cannot be changed or deleted; domain information can only be changed by the registrar; and the domain name can be renewed. The domain name is not included in the zone (domain root server) (not functioning properly). If a domain name has not received a renewal by the last day of its validity, it will be set to this status. At this point, the domain name will be inaccessible. If the original registrant renews the domain name promptly, it will immediately return to active status. If the original registrant fails to renew the domain name within 45 days, it will be placed in the next, more dangerous, state: Redemption. The domain name will enter a 30-day redemption period.
The Redemption period is a specific domain name status, also known as the grace period. The registrar must place the domain name in this state if the domain name registrar requests deletion or if the domain name registration expires. However, the domain name must have been registered for more than five days (if it has been registered for less than five days, it must be deleted immediately). The domain name is no longer in the domain name root server's domain (it cannot be used normally). The domain name cannot be modified or deleted, but can only be restored. Any changes or other requests from any other registrar to this domain name will be rejected, and the domain name will remain in this state for up to 30 days.
