Using a domain name isn't simply a matter of buying it and being done with it. Renewal is required to continue using it after the expiration date. Therefore, it's essential to understand the precautions for domain name renewal.
**I. **Proactive Renewal:** If the domain holder proactively renews the domain before its expiration, a 15-day grace period follows. If the registration service provider deletes the domain during this period, CNNIC will refund the renewal fee.
**II. **Automatic Renewal:** The domain will automatically renew for one year after its expiration. The fee will be deducted from the registration service provider's account.
**III.** A 30-day confirmation period follows automatic renewal. If the domain holder submits a written statement indicating they will not renew during the confirmation period, the registration service provider should cancel the domain. If the domain holder neither submits a written statement indicating they will not renew nor renews the domain during the confirmation period, the registration service provider has the right to cancel the domain after the confirmation period expires.
** IV. The automatic renewal period is 45 days after the initial registration. If the registration service provider cancels the domain name during this period, CNNIC will refund the deducted automatic renewal fee to its prepayment account.
V. Domain Redemption: After a registration service provider cancels a domain name whose new registration redemption period has expired, the domain name enters a 30-day high-price redemption period from the date of cancellation. During the redemption period, the original domain name holder and the registration service provider negotiate and determine the redemption price. For each domain name redeemed by the original domain name holder, CNNIC will deduct RMB 1000 (RMB) from the registration service provider's prepayment account for the one-year renewal fee. If the applicant does not redeem the domain name during the high-price redemption period, the domain name will enter a 5-day deletion period.
VI. Renewal Prohibition: If the domain name registration information is untrue, inaccurate, or incomplete, and the user fails to rectify the situation within the specified time, CNNIC has the right to require the registration service provider to cease providing renewal services to such users.
If you no longer wish to use a domain name and wish to transfer it to someone else, how does the domain name transfer process work?
1. To apply for a domain name transfer, you must submit a valid domain name transfer application form and identification documents of both the transferor and transferee to the domain name registration service provider. The domain name registration service provider will review the application within three business days of receiving the documents. If the review is successful, the domain name holder will be changed.
2. The domain name registration service provider must submit the changed holder's registration information to CNNIC within three business days of receiving the domain name holder's change application.
3. Without the domain name holder's consent, the domain name registration service provider may not transfer a domain name under the transferee's name.
4. While a domain name is involved in litigation, arbitration, or dispute resolution proceedings, the domain name registration service provider may not accept an application from the domain name holder to transfer the disputed domain name, unless the transferee agrees in writing to be bound by the court's judgment, arbitration award, or dispute resolution institution's ruling.
